Group Clay Classes
Group clay classes are the perfect way to feed your creativity in a fun, social environment. Classes are designed for a variety of age groups and experience levels, and will feature changing projects to introduce certain techniques. Explore topics such as impressions, pinch pots, animal forms, tiles, bowls and more.
All sorts of tools, objects, and materials are available to embellish or personalize students’ work. Experimentation is encouraged! Try a variety of clay and follow the process of making pottery — from building and decorating, through firing in the kiln.
Sample Class Topics:
Pinch Pots. A mighty little clay-building technique! Start with a mug or an animal bowl, perhaps.
Impressions. Endless decorative possibilities, using the flora of the Canyon! Create mini plates, bowls, pendants, plaques etc.
Clay Canvas. Explore color and design using clay, slips and tools! Draw, scratch, carve or paint a coaster, tile, trivet or plaque.
Monsters and Angels. Imagine a favorite figure in clay! Create a sculpture, candle holder or incense burner.
Coil Pots. Connect with the past by using this timeless, traditional clay-building technique to make functional containers.
Slab Construction. Use soft slabs or hard slabs, for different effects, as you build a personality pot, fairy house or other vessel.
Make a Face. Play with different clay colors to create a self-portrait, alter-ego or mask.
For the Birds. Create a happy space in the garden for visiting creatures, with a birdhouse, feeding station or birdbath.
Holiday Gifts. Employing a selection of previous techniques, create a handmade gift for a loved one. Try an ornament or candle holder, for example!
Class Details & Schedule
Ongoing Group classes run continuously (except on holidays), and are typically limited to 4-6 participants.
All classes last 90 minutes and include basic materials and firings.
